HOLLYWOOD THROUGH THE LENS – CELEBRATING 100 YEARS OF HOLLYWOOD On 10th March 1910, the first cinematic film was produced in Hollywood and the movie star was born. One hundred years on, Canon and Getty Images Gallery are proud to present a celebration of Hollywood portraits specifically selected from Getty Images’ archives, to represent both the influential individuals and the photographic styles which have shaped the decades. From classically lit studio portraits to the more candid work of later years, the exhibition offers a unique insight into the part technology has played in influencing the style of portrait photography. Canon’s deep history and passion for imaging began in the 1920s, with Canon’s founder Mr Yoshida’s first employment as a repairman for movie cameras. Between 1933 and 1936 the dream of the first prototype ‘Kwanon’ camera was revealed, and the first Canon camera ‘Hansa Canon’ was introduced. After many years of further development in 1959 the Canon Flex, Canon’s first SLR camera was launched. The EOS series was later born in 1987, with the EOS 650 and the EF series lens system. The EOS 300D was the first affordable digital SLR for general consumers and it took the world by storm while professional EOS-1 series cameras and EF lenses are chosen by the world’s professional photographers. The EOS 5D Mark II created a further revolution in 2008 with the introduction of full HD movie shooting in a DSLR camera, appealing to photographers and videographers the world over. EOS cameras and EF lenses have proven incredibly popular with amateur and professional photographers alike, with worldwide sales to date of more than 50 million EF lenses and 35 million EOS cameras. Canon continues to innovate to this day with the introduction of leading digital imaging technologies across the range. Through ongoing investment in research and development and by listening to customers, Canon will continue to offer photographers the very best tools possible.
