New PIXMA All-In-One and Photo printers deliver cutting-edge technology with improved performance and quality

United Kingdom / Republic of Ireland, 26 August 2008:

Canon is announcing details of its PIXMA range of printers for the second half of 2008. The range will now include seven new All-In-One devices and three new Photo printers, and reflects Canon’s aim of developing technologies that help to consistently deliver high-quality photo and document printing for every type of user.

Highlights of the PIXMA range include new Auto Photo Fix automatic image correction, Auto Scan Mode to simplify scanning, and the arrival of ChromaLife100+, which in conjunction with Canon’s FINE print head technology, new inks and new medias provides long-lasting prints that resist fading for a greater period of time. This 2008 range also introduces two new WiFi models into the PIXMA portfolio.

“Canon is evolving its popular PIXMA range of printers with a line-up that reflects new technology and has been designed to help the user create powerful and exciting images, presentations and documents,” said Mogens Jensen, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging, Europe.

PIXMA also has a clear environmental message, as Canon has reduced the size and packaging of the products. This means less packaging waste and fewer containers needed to transport the printers worldwide. All PIXMA printers are Energy Star compliant and several models in the new line-up feature auto duplex printing/copying in order to save on paper waste.

All-In-One PIXMA Printers
The entry-level models are the PIXMA MP190, PIXMA MP240 and PIXMA MP260 They all offer high-quality printing, efficient print speeds and superb value for money. The PIXMA MP190 has an impressive 4800x1200dpi resolution and uses a 2pl FINE print head. The PIXMA MP240 and PIXMA MP260 retain this resolution using new FINE cartridges with new ink, which when combined with specific Canon genuine photo paper gives ChromaLife100+ prints for even better longevity. The PIXMA MP240 and PIXMA MP260 are capable of borderless 10x15cm prints in approximately 45 seconds and add ease-of-use with a self-opening paper tray, Quick Start and new Auto Photo Fix software with automatic red-eye removal. The PIXMA MP240 features PictBridge technology for PC-less printing, while the PIXMA MP260 includes built-in memory card slots instead.

Mid-range models are the PIXMA MP540 and PIXMA MP620, these will be ideal for users looking for faster and superior quality in photo and document printing. The PIXMA MP540 and PIXMA MP620 utilise one of Canon’s premium photo engines and provide up to 9600x2400dpi resolution, using a 1pl FINE print head, as well as a 2400dpi scan resolution. Using new Single Inks, both support ChromaLife100+.

The PIXMA MP540 and PIXMA MP620 feature five new Single Ink tanks, giving greater efficiency as you only replace the colour that has run out. A large pigment black ink is used only for text in documents and a separate dye black is used to give impressive contrast in photos. Canon’s Easy-Scroll Wheel in combination with colour TFT displays provide users with simple menu navigation to all functions on the All-In-Ones.

The PIXMA MP540 and PIXMA MP620 offer Memory Card slots and PictBridge compatibility for PC-less photo printing, with the PIXMA MP620 adds functionality through WiFi and Ethernet connectivity. Both have two paper trays so at any one time both photo and plain paper can be loaded.

The high-end category is filled by a further two models, PIXMA MP630 and PIXMA MP980, which reinforce Canon’s commitment to printing excellence by concentrating on superior quality, print speed and advanced media handling. The PIXMA MP630 and PIXMA MP980 feature 1pl ink droplets with a print resolution of up to 9600x2400dpi and can generate photolab quality prints in around 20 seconds. Advanced media handling is addressed with Auto Duplex (for double-side printing/copying), two-way paper feeding and DVD/CD printing. The PIXMA MP630 uses a new 5 Single Ink print engine with the extra dye black for added contrast in photos.

The PIXMA MP980, the flagship model for this PIXMA range, is a comprehensive digital and analogue photolab All-In-One. It has six new Single Ink tanks, including a new grey ink that delivers premium monochrome printing. WiFi and Ethernet connectivity are included on this model, which is boosted by the addition of an 8.8cm colour TFT display – the largest in this line-up.

Another key technology on this flagship is its 4800dpi scanner with White LED reflective scanning and 35mm film and slide scanning. This provides zero warm-up time, so scanning starts almost instantaneously. For creatives and photographers, Easy-PhotoPrint Pro software, which is an Adobe Photoshop plug-in, has been included, giving control over colour and monochrome printing.

All the All-In-Ones bundle Canon’s Easy-PhotoPrint EX software for photo printing and creative projects, such as calendars and albums.

PIXMA Photo Printers
There are three new single-function Photo printers in this new PIXMA range, and they build on the success Canon has had in this area of the market. The entry-level PIXMA iP1900 boasts a contemporary design and produces class-leading prints using FINE Cartridges. The PIXMA iP1900 is an excellent choice for users looking for photolab quality at an affordable price.

The PIXMA iP3600 adds functionality to that of the PIXMA iP1900 and is likely to appeal to digital camera users looking to make the most of 9600x2400dpi resolution and 1pl photolab quality. Combining the PIXMA iP3600, 5 new Single Inks and new Canon photo papers creates ChromaLife100+ photo prints.

With its 1pl, max 9600x2400 print resolution and standard photolab 10x15cm borderless prints in around 20 seconds, the PIXMA iP4600 has the greatest performance of Canon’s PIXMA Photo printers. With 5 new Single Inks and new Canon photo papers, the PIXMA iP4600 delivers outstanding photo prints in fast times for the demanding photographer. Features such as auto duplex, two-way paper feeding and DVD/CD printing are backed by PC-less printing with PictBridge compatibility. All three Photo printers benefit from Auto Photo Fix with Canon’s bundled Easy-PhotoPrint EX software that now includes automatic red eye removal.
