Until 1st May, amateur photographers are invited to visit www.canon-europe.com/theassignment for the chance to win the photography assignment of a lifetime. The competition is Canon’s biggest ever European search to find the photography talent of the future. To help inspire entrants, a series of online tutorials are available on the competition website. Across 18 countries, The Assignment challenges amateur photographers to submit their best work in four categories: Portrait, Landscape, Sport and Macro. Each national category winner – selected by an online public vote and a distinguished judging panel – will receive a prize of €2,000 worth of Canon kit, and go forward to the pan-European round. Judged by an expert panel – chaired by award-winning reportage, portrait and travel photographer Vicki Couchman – the top two winners in Europe per category (Portrait, Landscape, Sport and Macro) will be taken on a trip to Vienna, to experience the thrills of UEFA EURO 2008™. They will then compete head-to-head in a photographic shoot out. The four overall category winners will be given the opportunity to follow their own ‘dream assignment’ – planned by them, and filmed for broadcast across Europe in late 2008.
