Canon helps Norton Rose LLP’s green credentials by replacing entire printing fleet in six-figure deal

REIGATE, August 29, 2007 - Canon, a world leader in digital imaging technology, today announced the implementation of a new balanced print deployment at the London office of international legal practice, Norton Rose LLP. Using the office move from Moorgate to London Bridge as a springboard to realign its office printing strategy, Norton Rose LLP required a solution that could increase fee-earners’ efficiency, meet its environmental targets and streamline procurement processes. Canon undertook a comprehensive audit of equipment to assess Norton Rose LLP’s print requirements and was awarded the contract over other providers in a competitive tender.

  • Canon solutions enable Norton Rose LLP to increase efficiency, reduce costs and meet environmental targets

In the deal worth £300,000, Canon will install a total of 480 devices. Norton Rose LLP will benefit from a balanced deployment of colour and black and white multifunctional printers (MFPs) and desktop printers to ensure that the appropriate printer is used for each print job. The print solution will enable Norton Rose LLP to streamline its scanning, printing, copying and faxing processes, while maximising the use of its new office space. Furthermore, Canon’s hardware will integrate directly with Norton Rose LLP’s choice of cost recovery software to further enhance their investment in technology.

Canon’s mix of MFPs and black and white desktop printers will promote the practice of distinguishing between draft print jobs (using only recyclable paper) and final versions, which are printed by the larger MFPs or sent to the printing room. The location of the printers has been designed to reduce the amount of time spent by staff retrieving documents, freeing up billable time. Furthermore, with the possible introduction of Canon’s uniFLOW Output Manager software Norton Rose LLP will benefit from intelligent solutions such as anytime, anywhere printing and secure release, which sends print jobs to a single queue enabling employees to securely access their job from any device in the building. These solutions are designed to improve employee efficiency and dramatically reduce Norton Rose LLP’s environmental impact of printing by limiting paper wastage.

“Printing is integral to the day-to-day running of our business. In the run-up to the office move we looked at the way the lawyers were working and set performance targets that the supplier would need to meet in order to improve the overall efficiency of the firm’s substantial volume of printing. We also needed printing and software suppliers who could work well together and show a passion to complete the project in a very tight timescale. Canon’s solutions improve our overall efficiency, providing us with more transparency of who is printing what and most importantly enabling us to reduce the environmental impact of printing,” said Anthony Salter, IT Project Manager, Norton Rose LLP.

The environmentally sound functionality of Canon’s machines also played a key part in the company’s selection of a supplier. Due to Canon’s commitment to best practice in this area, its machines employ functions such as sleep mode which reduces energy consumption as well as maximising machine uptime.

The deal has also mitigated the need for Norton Rose LLP’s procurement and facilities management staff to deal with multiple suppliers by providing one entity for installation, maintenance and print management consultancy.

Tracey Fielden, Head of Office Marketing, Canon UK “This is a significant contract for Canon and we are delighted that Norton Rose LLP has chosen us to overhaul its printing solutions. Norton Rose LLP’s proactive approach to limiting the environmental impact of print, whilst cutting costs, is testament to the forward-thinking nature of this organisation and we are confident of a long and successful relationship together.”
