- Canon launches its first compact network scanner, ScanFront 220, to address workgroup document scanning needs
- Sleek, secure and versatile device has small footprint, ideal for offices of all sizes
- Network scanner market set for 46% growth in next four years
The Canon ScanFront 220 is extending the boundaries of image capture and delivery by increasing productivity in the office workgroup and departmental sectors. Available in Standard or Professional versions, the ScanFront
220 incorporates a number of innovative Canon imaging features. The device features a large 8.5-inch touch-panel control, USB port for the scan-to-USB function, personal and networked address books, as well as new security features including fingerprint
identification (available only on the Professional version). Both models feature Canon's proprietary feed mechanism capable of scanning a wide range of media and documents including thick paper or plastic card and even driving licenses.
Canon’s launch of ScanFront meets the growing demand in the workgroup segment for document scanning devices within corporates and SMEs. The document scanner market is expected to grow by 14% from 2007 to 2011 and the network scanner market is set for 46%
growth during the same period. The workgroup category has become the largest with an expected growth of 15% from 2007 to 2011 (Infosource 2007, report. Expected growth is based on CAGR).
“The Canon ScanFront 220 stands at the forefront of scanning innovation, delivering a range of convenient features in one of the most practical and easy-to-use devices we have seen,” says Tracey Fielden, Head of Office Marketing, Canon UK. “Network
scanning is quickly moving up the boardroom agenda as the need to capture and share hardcopy information electronically has become business critical. That is why we have launched ScanFront 220 to make the capturing and secure storage of data even easier,
as well as offering corporate and SME workgroups unrivalled functionality for business scanning.”
The large 8.5-inch colour touch panel control on the Canon ScanFront 220 device allows users to easily navigate through functions, as well as preview scanned images, to ensure proper content is captured before sending. Scanning at up to 26
pages-per-minute (ppm) or 52 images-per-minute (ipm), the ScanFront 220 captures colour, grayscale and black and white images in various file formats – including high compression PDF, searchable PDF, TIFF and JPEG.
The ScanFront 220 allows system administrators to remotely register individual users to the device and assign each user with specific functionality. This enables IT network administrators to remotely connect to and centrally manage entire fleets of
ScanFront 220 devices through the network.
Both the Standard and Professional models offer user authentication via user ID and password, while the Professional model includes a fingerprint authentication sensor to prevent unauthorised use of the device. Additional security features include
encrypted PDF sending for secure transmissions and a save log to track outgoing transmissions, complete with saved copy of the cover page. Also, each user on the ScanFront 220 has a defined "From Address", which is not changeable to prevent spoofed emails
being sent from the device. Both models provide network security through NTLM V2 protocol and Kerberos network protocol used to identify and authenticate clients connecting to servers.
