Canon’s new network scanners allow real-time integration with business applications

United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, 6th June 2012 – Canon, world-leader in imaging solutions, has today launched the Canon imageFORMULA ScanFront 300e and 300eP, two ultra-compact network scanners powered with eCopy ShareScan software for advanced document processing. Using optical character recognition (OCR), data can be extracted from the scanned document at the point of capture allowing for real-time validation and integration into existing business applications. eCopy ShareScan also enables easy distribution of editable documents into programmes such as Microsoft Word or Excel, and business information systems including SharePoint, OpenText DM, EMC Documentum, and iManage Worksite.

The launch of the ScanFront 300e and 300eP broadens Canon’s range of popular ScanFront network scanners, which offer a user friendly interface, reliable document handling and a high level of security control, in a compact footprint. The new models can be managed and administrated centrally on the network, reducing IT costs and time. Used as a shared scanning device for office teams, at customer service points or remote branch offices, both models provide an intuitive document capture solution for businesses where immediate integration of data into business applications and workflows is crucial, such as retail, financial, healthcare and telecommunications sectors.

Sean Suematsu, European Document Scanning Solutions Director, Canon Europe, comments, “Bottlenecks often appear where documents enter a business and are processed manually; but the resulting delays, errors and inefficiencies can be avoided. Canon is focusing on the entire document process within an organisation. The combination of our eCopy ShareScan solution and ScanFront Network Scanners enables organisations to manage their documents dynamically and remove these obstacles. Using OCR and validating data at the time of capture allows organisations to streamline processes and improve customer service and efficiency.”

The ScanFront 300e and 300eP have an ultra-compact sleek design and can be conveniently placed in offices with limited space. The robust feeder mechanism and straight-through paper path enables various document types and thicknesses to be scanned reliably together. With a feeding capacity of up to 50 sheets, they allow fast batch scanning of up to 27ppm¹, while the intuitive large 8.4” colour touch screen enables users to operate the device with ease and navigate through menus quickly. In addition, the ScanFront 300eP model comes with Ultrasonic Double Feed Detection, ensuring all documents are scanned smoothly, and with advanced security measures thanks to a built in fingerprint sensor that enables instantaneous user authentication.

The ScanFront 300e/300eP models can be connected and managed by eCopy Sharescan Manager on the same common network with other eCopy enabled devices, including Canon’s standalone USB scanners and multi-functional devices. “Our broad range of image capturing solutions allows a business or a person within a business to select the most appropriate devices based on their needs; that could be a scanner or a multi-functional device. What’s important is that they work together and offer the same consistent user interface and experience”, continues Suematsu.

“The networked scanner segment is expected to be the fastest growing segment in the high speed scanner market with 27.5% CAGR between 2011 and 2015.² Canon was the market leading brand in terms of unit sales of ‘network’ scanners in Western Europe in 2011³, and with the new ScanFront 300e/300eP models we continue meeting the growing demand in this market.”

eCopy ShareScan is built on an extensible platform, which enables customers and partners to further expand the functionality of eCopy with the addition of Business Application Connectors and Document Process Extenders. This enables users to send documents from networked scanning devices directly into business applications and enterprise content management systems. An eCopy ShareScan SDK is also available to software developers and system integrators who want to develop customised and integrated advanced document workflow solutions.

Pricing and availability

The ScanFront 300e/300eP will be available through all Canon sales offices and selected distributor partners in the UK from June, 2012. The eCopy ShareScan Software packages will also be available separately to the ScanFront 300 and 300eP devices.
