Canon UK supports first UK solo exhibition of Yohji Yamamoto at the V&A

REIGATE, March 8, 2011 – Canon UK is supporting the first UK solo exhibition of Yohji Yamamoto - one of the world's most influential and enigmatic fashion designers – at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), London.

  • Canon UK is the imaging partner for the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) exhibition which runs from 12 March until 10 July 2011    

  • Canon will support the V&A with all specialist print needs for the display, including reproducing delicate images and printing large posters 

  • Partnership complements current sponsorships with London, Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks

The exhibition will feature over 80 garments from Yamamoto’s womenswear and menswear collections spanning his career. The garments on display in the main exhibition space will be accompanied by a mixed-media timeline showing excerpts from fashion shows, films, graphic material and select photographs, which will contextualise his career. Other visionary designs will be exhibited on mannequins amongst the treasures of the V&A.

As the exhibitions imaging partner, Canon will be assisting with the V&A’s specialist printing requirements. This includes reproducing original images of Yamamoto’s collection, which were captured by professional photographers who collaborated on previous catalogues. The reproduced images form facsimile copies of original catalogues will be showcased within the main exhibition gallery, Canon has also supported the exhibition by printing some original photographs of Yamamoto’s previous collections[1]. 

In the run-up to the exhibition, Canon worked closely with V&A representatives to ensure the reproduced prints closely resemble the original catalogues without causing any damage to the original prints.

Canon has a long-standing relationship with the V&A and it was the title sponsor of its Photography Gallery from 1998-2003.
