Over 300 people submitted their favourite images from this year’s Tour of Britain for consideration by a panel of judges, comprising professional cyclists, cycling journalists, Tour of Britain organisers and Canon, official imaging supplier and longest serving sponsors of The Tour. After much deliberation, the ten images thought to best capture the essence of The Tour of Britain were chosen and displayed to members of the public at Cycle 08 at Earls Court over the weekend. During the show a panel of judges, including cycling journalists and professional cyclists, plus representatives of The Tour of Britain and Cycle 08, stopped by The Tour of Britain stand to contribute towards the decision. The winning image was taken on the Scottish Stage Seven of this year’s Tour of Britain, depicting Rapha – Condor – Recycling.co.uk duo Chris Newton and Dean Downing climbing Mennock Pass, the highest point of this year’s race, in the company of An Post’s Mark Cassidy and Juan van Heerden of the MTN Energade team. The Tour of Britain Canon photography competition winner Emma Felton, who’s a member of the Border City Wheelers in Carlisle, said: “I'm really happy to have been chosen as the winner! It was great being selected as a finalist and having visited The Tour of Britain stand at Earls Court on Friday, the standard of photography was incredibly high. I really enjoy taking photographs at events like The Tour of Britain, but to capture the true spirit I also think requires a little bit of luck! I met my boyfriend last September while waiting for The Tour of Britain on the last climb outside Kendal, near Kirby Lonsdale (taking photographs), so this year, as keen cyclists, we thought we'd go and see one of the stages again and make a weekend out of it. The Mennock Pass provided a magnificent backdrop, to the penultimate stage and we were lucky that the rain stopped a few minutes before the cyclists came past!” Commenting on the competition, Lisa Attfield, Canon UK , said: “Once again we’ve had a fantastic response to the competition, and the quality of the entries received has been incredibly high. We’re very happy to see that people at the roadside of The Tour of Britain are getting involved with photography and using the race as an opportunity to capture some great images.” Emma will now receive a Canon PowerShot A470 and a SELPHY CP740 compact photo printer, a bundle that offers great value without compromising on features, and of course includes everything she’ll need to capture and print more great cycling moments. The other finalists, who received tickets to Cycle 08 and Tour of Britain / Canon goody bags are: Alex Wright, Macclesfield
Carl Spiers, Tiverton
Damon Peacock, Leyland
Graham Mitchell, Stoke-on-Trent
Kevan Leek, Staffordshire
Peter Burtwhistle, Carluke
