FAF imaging for the diagnosis of retinal disease is a relatively new diagnostic technique that provides more information on the health of the retinal pigment epithelium. It is becoming increasingly popular amongst eye care professionals due to its non-invasive nature. FAF imaging has shown to be very useful for the early detection of Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD), one of the leading causes of visual impairment. Recent studies indicate that FAF imaging can also aid the diagnosis of a variety of other diseases and even detection of intraocular tumours. When using FAF in conjunction with other diagnostic equipment, eye care professionals can more confidently diagnose ocular disease. The dedicated camera with EOS technology was specifically developed for Canon’s retinal cameras. This unique camera has been created for optimal retinal imaging, and allows the CR-2 Plus to offer the best possible image quality, whilst remaining compact and lightweight for ease of handling. The CR-2 Plus works with the widest range of ISO settings so that eye care professionals can choose to use very low ISO speeds to attain the best possible image without compromising on quality. The low flash mode in combination with higher ISO values will not cause the pupil to constrict after the flash, meaning images can be taken again in quick succession. The CR-2 Plus comes complete with software for optimised workflow and provides the option to seamlessly connect to hospital networks and practice management systems and is fully DICOM* compliant. The Canon CR-2 Plus will be on display at the ESCRS Congress exhibition in Vienna, Austria, 17-21 September 2011, stand number B710 At ESCRS 2011, Canon will also be showing a preview of the new RK-F2 Full Auto Ref-Keratometer. Reflecting Canon’s long withstanding experience in ophthalmic measurement equipment, the latest addition to the Canon range is extremely compact and lightweight, offering an advanced fully automatic alignment and measurement system. The RK-F2 is Canon’s sixth generation Auto Ref-Keratometer. The new unit is simple to use and equipped with a tilting LCD screen that allows it to be operated either standing up or sitting down. After a short initial alignment, with just the press of a button, the full auto instrument will measure both eyes automatically and print out the results, helping to shorten examination time. It is also fitted with a retro illumination mode which can be extremely useful for indentifying cataracts and other serious eye problems. The RK-F2 also has extended connectivity for easy integration with existing practice management systems.
