Small but packed with features
The MV5iMC is a sophisticated and slim digital camera that packs a lot of features into its small size. By lowering the shoulder to accommodate the LCD and using a compact battery, the MV5 series feels smaller than previous models. The advanced LCD monitor is also easier—and more fun—to use because of bit map displays that can be understood intuitively.
High quality film and stills
In the MV5iMC, Canon has utilised digital camera technology and know-how to improve still image reproduction. Colour signal processing has been corrected on the premise that image recorded on tape will be viewed on a TV monitor and that images recorded on the memory card will be printed out or viewed on a PC. By making separate signal processing possible for both movies and still images the parameters for image quality adjustments have been substantially extended.
SD memory card/multimedia card slot
The SD memory card slot and 8MB SD memory card allow the MV5iMC not only to capture still images on DV tape, but to record, store and retrieve still images and movie files. This function also allows for the transfer of still images and movie files to a PC via a USB connection, PC card adapter and card reader.
XGA-size still image
In the MV5i MC model of this series, XGA-size still image output can be realised with the 1/6-inch 800,000-pixel CCD and new signal processing LSI. This feature coupled with Canon’s image stabiliser and optical 10x zoom lens ensures that the MV5i MC camcorder is ideal for high levels of image and colour resolution.
Special features
The MV5iMC offers a variety of digital effects, including flip, tide and puzzle, as well as a wide range of colour tones, to allow users to show off their creativity. All terminals (DV, AV, LANC, USB, MIC, DC and S video) are located on the camera body, so there is no need for a docking unit.
An audio dubbing feature allows the user to add new sound to the original recorded sound, and the night mode function makes it possible to create high quality images regardless of the lighting conditions.
New Motion JPEG
The MV5i MC model is the first Canon camcorder capable of Motion JPEG recording function, which means that short movies can be recorded onto a memory card making it easy to download to a personal computer or send by email. Simple editing of these movies is also made possible by using the Video Impression software included in the kit.
PC Connectivity
Equipped with a USB port it is easy to transmit image/movie files to a PC from the MV5iMC. This USB capability also makes it compatible with the new Exif 2.2 standard, which strengthens the relationship between digital camera and printer. By connecting to a printer with Exif Print capability, the camera data obtained at the time of recording can be optimised to obtain better print output results. Also capable of directly printing onto the Canon Direct Printer CP-10, the MV5iMC allows users to print images directly from the camcorder via the direct interface cable.
Accessories
A Wide-converter WD-28, a Tele-converter TL-28 and new Filter set FS-28U has been newly designed for the MV5 series of camcorders. These accessories further expand the superb quality and high image resolution of movie as well as still picture shooting performance.
