Digital camera function The new 1.33 megapixel CCD lends outstanding resolution for still images, while Canon’s 10x optical image stabiliser enhances the quality of both still and moving pictures by preventing blurring at even telescopic focal distances. Importantly it also has Direct print capabilities and a new network function.
Improved memory card access speed reduces the read and write time, making it possible to capture images quickly. A continuous shooting function enables 30 images to be shot at 3 fps in VGA size or up to 10 images at 2 fps in SXGA size. This function is linked to the flash, so continuous shooting is possible even in low light situations. The MVX2i also has a built-in flash with a light control system and four modes: auto, compulsory on, compulsory off and red eye reduction.
Compact and stylish The MVX2i is smaller than the MVX1i with a new layout and design of the control buttons for improved operability. The advanced rotating grip gives users a wider range of grip angles, so the camera is easier to hold and carry.
Newly developed signal processing LSI Canon’s digital camera technology offers improved still image reproduction. Colour signal processing has been enhanced to take account of the fact that images recorded on tape will likely be viewed on a TV monitor and images recorded on the memory card will be printed out or viewed on a PC.
Motion JPEG The motion JPEG recording function means that short movies can be recorded onto a memory card, making it easy to download them to a personal computer or email.
Direct print capabilities The MVX2i is the first Canon digital camcorder to be compatible with Canon’s direct printer range. This facility allows users to print images directly from the camcorder via the direct interface cable without the need for a PC.
Additional functions Super Night LED – a white LED mounted on the front of the camera is a supplemental light source when recording in Super Night mode. Digital Animation Mix – in addition to combining still images, the MVX2i can combine images with animations recorded on a card and recorded to tape. Digital effect and digital fade – a variety of digital effects and fading functions are included for on-camera video editing. These effects previously had to be done on a PC. Effects include colours, ball, mirror, cube and wave while digital fade includes flip, tide, puzzle and beam effects. Analogue-digital converter – analogue signals from external equipment can be converted in real time to digital signals and output through the DV jack.
Network functions The MVX2i offers enhanced network abilities using IEEE 1394 for DV Messenger and file transfer function. DV Messenger makes it possible for the camcorder to communicate with another Canon camcorder and allow for tape playback streaming and camera live streaming.
