We have found the following phenomenon in cameras with firmware version 1.0.0.0.

The shutter speed becomes 1/3200 sec. and the aperture becomes f/5.6 when shooting very bright subjects.

Solution:

We have released firmware version 1.0.1.0 that includes the following fixes and improvements:

Fixes a phenomenon where the shutter speed becomes 1/3200 sec. and the aperture becomes f/5.6 when shooting very bright subjects.
After the firmware update, the shutter speed will be 1/4000 and the aperture will be f/6.3 when shooting very bright subjects.

Important:
Firmware version 1.0.1.0 is for cameras with firmware up to version 1.0.0.0. If the camera's firmware is already version 1.0.1.0, it is not necessary to update the firmware.
Please note that, once the camera is updated to the latest version, it cannot be restored to a previous version.

How to Identify Cameras eligible for the Firmware Update:
Please check the serial number on the bottom of the camera.
This firmware update is for products whose sixth digit from the left is “2” or less:
Serial number:  *****2******

Preparations for the firmware update:

Windows
After the downloaded compressed file (.zip) is extracted, a firmware folder is created.
*Extracting the downloaded file: Right-click the zip file, and then select [Extract All] to extract the file.

Macintosh
After the downloaded compressed file (.dmg) is extracted, a firmware folder is created.
*Extracting the downloaded file:
The downloaded folder is automatically extracted, and a firmware folder is created. If the download folder cannot be automatically extracted, double-click the folder.

The extracted folder contains the firmware (file name: IXY51S.FI2 / file size: 3,570 KB) and instructions on the firmware update procedures (a PDF file in five languages: Japanese, English, French, Spanish, and Simplified Chinese). Before starting the firmware update procedures, please be sure to carefully confirm your understanding of these instructions.

The following things are required to perform this firmware update:

1. An IXUS 1100 HS digital camera
2. A computer (OS: Windows or Mac OS X)
   * OS Requirements: Windows 7 (Service Pack 1), Windows Vista (Service Pack 2), or Windows XP (Service Pack 3) or Mac OS X (10.5-10.6)
3. A 32 MB or higher-capacity SD Memory Card, an SDHC Memory Card, or an SDXC Memory Card (all commercially available)
4. A memory card reader (commercially available) or an SD card slot on the computer
5. A fully-charged, dedicated battery pack or a dedicated AC adapter kit

6. The firmware (the file downloaded from the Web site)
