FAQ: Important announcement for owners of the EOS 1000D Digital SLR Camera


We have discovered that some EOS 1000D Digital SLR Cameras may exhibit the following phenomena:

  1. The LCD monitor does not display, the shutter does not release, and the busy indication remains lit in the viewfinder.

  2. The message, “Err99 Shooting is not possible. Turn the power switch to <OFF> and <ON> again or re-install the battery”, appears on the camera’s LCD monitor, and after the above operation is carried out, the LCD monitor displays in a language that is different from the actual language setting.

Cause


The above phenomena are due to a firmware bug that affects cameras with firmware version 1.0.5 or earlier.

Answer :


Firmware version 1.0.6, that addresses the above phenomena, has been released for the EOS 1000D Digital SLR Camera on 13 October 2009.  To prevent the occurrence of these phenomena we recommend users to update their cameras with the latest version of the firmware, which can be downloaded from:

http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/firm-e/eosdigital5/firmware.html


Alternatively you can contact one of our authorized repair facilities if your camera is affected by either of these phenomena. Free repairs for affected cameras will be provided.
