FAQ: Why can't I print from Windows via USB with my Bubble Jet Printer?

Windows 98/ME/2000 users:

  • Click Start.
  • Click Settings.
  • Click Printers.
  • Right-click on the Canon Printer Icon.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the Maintenance tab.
  • Click Start Status Monitor.
  • In the Canon BJ Printer Status Monitor window check the status of the printer.

Windows XP users:

  • Click Start.
  • Click Control Panel.
  • Click Printers and Faxes.
  • Right-click on the Canon Printer Icon.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the Maintenance tab.
  • Click Start Status Monitor.
  • In the Canon BJ Printer Status Monitor window check the status of the printer.

If the status indicates Printer not responding check the following.

  1. Ensure that you are running Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows 2000 or Windows XP. The USB interface is not compatible with Windows 95 or Windows NT or Windows 3.1.
  2. Ensure that the printer is on and the light on the printer is steady green.
  3. Ensure that the USB cable is securely connected to the computer and the printer,
  4. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer for 10 seconds, then plug it back in and turn the printer on.
  5. Ensure that the USB port is selected in the printer properties.

    Windows 98/ME/2000 users: Click on Start, then Settings and then Printers. Right-click on Canon Printer icon and click on Properties. Click on the Detail tab.

    Windows XP users: Click on Start then Control Panel and then Printers and Faxes. Click on the Ports tab.

    Make sure USBPRN## (Printer Name). If it indicates USBPRN## (Device not connected), unplug the USB cable from the back of the printer, then plug it back in.

  6. If the status still does not indicate that the Printer is on-line, you may have to uninstall and reinstall the printer driver.
