Portable Canon products can get left on planes and trains. Larger items can get stolen from your home, office or hotel room. But all is not lost. No matter what the circumstances, police forces can contact Canon if they recover your product so it can be returned to you. We can also remind you of serial numbers and dates of purchase too, perfect if you have ever need to make an insurance claim and have lost your records. Claiming on your insurance policy If you have your Canon product stolen, your insurance company will usually only accept a claim if you have proof of purchase; something that can be difficult to find. So, it is worth remembering that some insurance companies will accept as proof, the details from Canon’s database as long as it is complete, including date of purchase and Serial Number. Note: not all insurance companies will, so you need to check. But if they do Customer Service will be happy to help. It’s a small world Canon is now offering customers across Europe a new service that is starting to bear fruit. If you are unfortunate enough to have a product stolen make sure you tell Canon about it and give them the Serial Number. Customer Services has created a new database of known stolen products and every time a product comes in for repair it is run against this database. Report your stolen product by calling Canon UK Regional Competence Centre - 0844 369 0100 (calls cost 5p per min from a BT landline, call costs vary with network / service provider.) And of course if you can’t remember your Serial Number, as long as you registered it you can go into your own You Connect account to find it. If the Serial Number is found on the database then Canon will notify the police, who will take appropriate action. Every month 1-2 of these products are identified and dealt with. Not a massive number, but it could be a nice surprise after such a distressing experience. “Customer privacy and confidentiality comes first and foremost to everyone at Canon, but after that we will do everything we can to help customers become reunited with their products or make a valid insurance claim.” Manager, Canon Customer Services
