In line with our Europe Middle East & Africa group objectives, our primary focus is to drive sales and achieve sustainable sound growth and improve our central structure and processes in order to respond to our customers quickly and effectively whilst managing our resources efficiently. 2010 was a challenging year as we emerged from recession, however, we managed to grow our business by 1% year on year. We launched a new business stream in the shape of our Consultancy Services division which will help us to diversify and widen our offering to businesses, providing them with the solutions they require to become more efficient themselves, through technology. On the consumer side we maintained our number one position in Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) cameras, with good growth in our mid-range products, whilst performing well in digital still camera and video products against a declining market. From a corporate social responsibility perspective we continue to retain our IS014001 accreditation in recognition of our environmental management. We also have a Canon team with strong expertise and passion for the Canon brand, reflected by solid employee commitment survey results in recent years (2010 employee commitment index of 78%). Canon's diverse and open working culture was also strengthened through diversity awareness training that was rolled out to all staff during the year. In keeping with our long-standing corporate philosophy of Kyosei ("living and working together for the common good") not only do we operate our business in an ethical and conscientious way but we continue to have a first conservation partnership with WWF - a title we have held for twelve years. Canon's belief is that it should ensure our business endeavours include our social and ecological responsibilities worldwide, so that we fulfil the role and expectations of a World Class organisation, by protecting our planet and its resources. At Canon we bring environmental awareness into every business area at each stage of technological development, manufacturing and marketing. Humanitarian support is fundamental to our business and it is something we provide through our partnership with Red Cross Societies to support a wide range of local youth projects across Europe to help the charity better the lives of vulnerable children. We are proud of our record as a responsible company and we look forward to the challenges ahead and with the continued support of our employees 2011 will be a year of growth and success for Canon (UK) Ltd.
