By signing up and switching off at http://earthhour.wwf.org.uk/ you will be helping to send a powerful signal to global leaders that they must take urgent action to tackle climate change. Canon is supporting this message throughout its global operations by turning out lights at many of its offices - it's good to feel part of something which unites everyone, wherever you may work and live. On a personal level, you and your friends and family can take part by switching off your lights at home. The lights out initiative began in Sydney in 2007 as a one-city environmental campaign but has now evolved into a grassroots action that has captured the attention of the citizens of the world. In 2009, Earth Hour saw some of the world's most iconic international landmarks - Sydney Opera House, the Acropolis, the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State Building and Big Ben - all plunged into darkness for 60 minutes as part of the largest global action of its kind ever.
