The Brief

Life is full of iconic moments that define who we are. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the EOS 5D series, we invite you to share an iconic photo that you feel represents a story of change for the chance to win from a range of limited edition EOS 5D prizes. Entries will be judged by internationally acclaimed Canon Ambassadors and Getty Images photographers. If you need some inspiration check out the images in the competition Gallery. Good luck!

Who can enter the Canon Iconic Images competition?

The competition is open to all residents of United Kingdom & Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, Switzerland, Belgium, Austria and The Netherlands aged 18 years or over (or with the permission of an adult to enter)

To keep things fair, there are a few groups of people who can't enter:

  • Canon Masters
  • Canon Ambassadors
  • Canon Explorers
  • Employees of Canon and their immediate families, the agencies or anyone professionally connected with this Competition are not eligible to participate

Eligible entrants can enter the competition as many times as they like.

Does my image need to be shot on a Canon camera?

No. For this competition eligible submissions include photographs shot on any device.

How do I enter?

Entering is simple, just follow these 3 step

  • First, select a photo which you have captured that you feel represents a story of change. Check out the images in the competition Gallery if you need some inspiration
  • Then, create a Canon iD to upload your photo and access other fun stuff like irista and the Canon newsletter
  • Finally, enter your photo and tell us in 140 characters or less the story behind it and how it represents change

Elligible entries will be displayed on the Canon Gallery following moderation.

How is the competition judged?

Winners will be selected by a judging panel consisting of internationally acclaimed Canon Ambassadors and Getty Images - one of the world’s leading creators and distributors of award-winning still imagery, video, music and multimedia products - photographers and staff:

What are the key competition dates?

The competition will open for entry at 09:00 CEST on Tuesday 1 September 2015 and close at 23:59 CEST on Friday 2 October 2015. Images received after this time may be displayed in the Canon Gallery, but will not be eligible as a competition entry.

Winners will be notified via email on or before 30 October 2015.

Shortlisted winners will be publically announced on 3 November 2015, and finalists & the grand prize winner on 24 November 2015 on the Canon Gallery.

What is the criteria?

Eligible submissions include photographs captured on any device that represent a story of change. Entrants must ensure that they include the story behind their image and have permission from anyone featured and any other rights holders who are associated with their image. Please view the full for more information on image requirements for valid competition entry.

Judging will be based on technique, creativity and original and interesting interpretation of the brief.
