The Shetland Sheepdog is named after the Shetland Islands in Scotland. Originally bred to herd sheep, the ‘Sheltie’ is now more commonly found in the family home thanks to the great relationship the breed has with kids. The herding instinct is still
strong though, and Shelties will sometimes treat a group of children as if they were sheep!
