Kumamoto Castle

Kumamoto Castle

Information:

Built in 1607, Kumamoto Castle is one of Japan’s most famous castles. Its signature curved, stone walls were used to prevent enemies from storming the castle, while inhabitants grew ginkgo tress to make sure they would always have food during long battles. One of the longest battles was during the Satsuma Rebellion in the 19th century, where the castle was under siege for 53 days.
