Moai Statues of Easter Island

Information

Easter Island, once a little-known island in the Pacific, is now famous for its giant Moai stone statues. With over 1000 of them standing staring out to the ocean the Moai have always been shrouded in mystery. It is thought that they symbolically represented the different tribes that lived on the island and construction began as early as the 8th century before ceasing abruptly in the 17th century.
