The Parthenon

Information

The temple of the Athene Parthenos built on the Acropolis in Athens was constructed between 447–432 BC by Pericles. It was dedicated to Athena, the goddess of wisdom, who is represented by a statue in the main hall, facing east so as to catch the morning sun. The temple is surrounded by 58 columns decorated with magnificent relief sculpture.
