Information:

"Matryoshka" or "nesting dolls" are popular Russian souvenirs. At first glance the gift appears to be simply a hand-painted wooden woman in traditional costume but the figure separates at the centre to reveal another doll "nested" inside. This doll in turn contains another, smaller figure and so on. Often made from lime, traditional matryoshka are hand-turned on a lathe.
