Stag Beetle

Stag Beetle

Information:

The Stag Beetle’s mouth parts have evolved into enormous jaws, which resemble antlers on a stag’s head. Although these jaws look fearsome, they’re not used for biting but for fighting. The male Stag Beetle will use its impressive jaws to rut (just like a stag) with other males. It’s the female Stag Beetle – less threatening-looking – that can deliver a sharp nip.
