Canon backs a winner

Amstelveen, The Netherlands, 25 July, 2007: The winner of the renowned Ian Parry Scholarship is announced Ivor Prickett has been named as winner of the renowned Ian Parry Scholarship. The award, for which Canon is a major sponsor, recognises young and emerging photography talent. “Ivor Prickett joins a long line of talented young photographers who have won the Ian Parry Scholarship,” says Tom Stoddart, Trustee of the Ian Parry Scholarship Award. “His distinctive, beautiful images stood out in a year when the quality of entries was higher than ever before."

Prickett is a 23 year-old photojournalist who studied his craft at Newport University. His winning portfolio tells the story of the return of some of the 200,000 Serbian Croats who were displaced during the Croatian War of Independence of 1991-1995. Years later, many of these citizens are returning to their homeland in an effort to rebuild their lives. “I am honored and shocked to win the award,” Ivor says.

“I survive as a freelancer, which is amazing, but winning this award is going to help no end,” he went on to say. As part of his prize, Prickett wins £2500 to shoot an assignment of his choosing (nominated during the entry process) and £500 worth of Goldenshot vouchers. He also goes onto the final list of nominees for the prestigious Joop Swart Masterclass in Amsterdam, which is part of the World Press Photo organisation.

Other competition winners include:
