Shorts Competition - Terms and Conditions

By submitting a video entry of up to 3 minutes about your unique perspective on a special place to you, you accept these terms and conditions and agree to be entered into the Shorts competition. Entries accepted from the period of 1 July to 30 November 2016.


1.1 The Shorts competition is open to all UK residents aged 18 and over.

1.2 Dealers and other commercial entities are not eligible to participate.

1.3 Persons affiliated with Canon or any Canon affiliate or Canon group company, including but not limited to Canon staff and their family members, are not permitted to enter the competition.


2.1 Participants are requested to submit a video entry up to 3 minute on their own theme that conveys a unique perspective on a special place to you. Entries should be made via the online form found – to enter you will need to include a link to your video, via vimeo, YouTube another video platform.

2.2 No purchase or entry fee is required. There is no fee charged to enter into this competition other than the cost of Participant accessing the Internet which Participant would otherwise have. However, the conditions below must be met in order to participate in the competition.

2.3 All entries must be received between 6 July to 30 November 2016.


3.1 There is 1 winner and 2 runner ups. The winner will receive Canon C100 Mark ii plus the chance to film unique opportunities with Canon for 12 months (2017). The runners up with receive a Canon XC10.

3.2 Absolutely no cash or other prize alternatives are available in whole or in part.

3.3 Prize winners are responsible for any obligations related to their winning of any Prize as may be applicable including their travel to and from any filming opportunities


4.1 The Participant hereby grants to Canon and the Canon affiliates, their sub-licensees and agents, a EMEA-wide royalty-free assignable exclusive licence (“Licence”) to use, reproduce, and publish (whether in their entirety or in cropped or edited mode) the video submitted and the winner videos produced during the 12 months for commercial and non-commercial purposes and any related promotional materials for Canon goods or services, whether printed or on the internet (including without limitation on the Participant YouTube, vimeo, other channel), on Canon’s, Canon affiliates’ and third parties’ websites or on social media without limit in time.

4.2 Photos must not contain… Recognisable persons, unless Participant can demonstrate that such persons have granted all the necessary permissions for the footage to be used and published by Canon under the terms and conditions of the Clause 3.1; or

4.2.1 Works of art; unless Participant can demonstrate that Participant have been granted a licence to have such works of art used and published by Canon under the terms and conditions of the Clause 3.1 of these Ts and Cs or

4.2.2 Logos or brand names unless Participant can demonstrate that Participant have been granted a licence to have such logo or brand names used and published by Canon under the terms and conditions of the Clause 3.1 of these Ts and Cs ; or

4.2.3 Footage featuring nudity or anything which may be considered obscene, immoral or in any way inappropriate or illegal; or

4.2.4 Anything that may infringe the rights of any third party;

4.4 The Participant hereby warrants that he/she has all necessary rights and authority to enter into this agreement and grant the licence to Canon, its affiliates, sub-licensees and agents. Furthermore, the participant warrants that (i) it has secured all necessary third party permissions and licences and (ii) the Video or any part thereof, and (iii) its use by Canon, its affiliates, agents and sub-licensees within the scope of the licence granted does not and shall not infringe or breach the rights of any third-party, including but not limited to, any intellectual property or video rights.


5.1 The winner and 2 runners up will be chosen by a panel of judges from Canon (or any affiliated company). The judges' decision will be final. The panel will not comment on or explain its choice to the Participants.

5.2 The winner and 2 runners up from all valid entries received will be chosen at the judges’ absolute discretion.

5.3 The winners will be contacted by 16 December 2016.

5.4 In the event that a chosen person does not respond within the deadline detailed in the email, Canon shall revoke the award and select another entry upon its absolute discretion.

5.5 Entrants who are not selected will not be contacted.

5.6 Participants also agree to be contacted by Canon for the purposes of administrating the competition or in the event that Canon wishes to discuss any other use of footage submitted to the competition.

5.7 Canon reserves the right to disqualify incomplete or illegible entries or which do otherwise not meet the above requirements.


6.1 Participant's personal information will be used by Canon to conduct the competition, for participation in the prize and in accordance with Canon's Privacy Policy, currently located at subject to the following, which shall be in addition to the Privacy Policy.

6.2 Canon may use participant's information collected during the competition for marketing and promotional purposes, using Participant's name and footage taken on the day of the event.

6.3 Participant hereby explicitly consents to its personal information being transferred and processed within UK by Canon. Participant explicitly consents to the processing by Canon and their affiliates of personal information about Participant submitted when entering this Contest or collected if a prize is received, for the purposes and in the manner set out above or in the Canon Privacy Policy referred to above (including the disclosure of such information or transfer of it to jurisdictions which may not provide the same legal protection as the country in which Participant is located).


7.1 Canon shall not be liable for any failure to fulfil this offer where such failure is caused by any supervening circumstances amounting to force majeure. Such circumstances shall include, but shall not be limited to, severe weather conditions, fire, flood, war, earthquake, riots, industrial dispute, terrorism, acts of God, or events that, without the fault of either party, render performance impossible or incapable of satisfactory execution.

7.2 Canon accepts no responsibility for any Entries received after the closing date of 11pm 25th September 2014 as set out in Clause 2.3.
