Canon introduces ‘Vision Edition-U’ software to EMEA at Motek 2019
United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, 3 October 2019 – In partnership with Universal Robots (UR), Canon will introduce its new image processing software ‘Vision Edition-U’ to the EMEA market at Motek 2019, which will be held in Germany from 7-10 October. The software has been exclusively developed to integrate with UR’s collaborative robots (cobots), enhancing their application capability and providing flexible automated solutions for production sites.

‘Vision Edition-U’ works with pan/ tilt/ zoom network cameras, acting as the cobot’s eye to cover the entire range of movement of the robot arm, automating visual inspection for fast and accurate pattern matching. The software, for example, registers the quantity of parts and reads the weight to ensure packages contain the correct contents before they are sorted by the cobot.
Canon Industrial Imaging Platform launched in 2018 to offer extensive image processing capabilities and simple robot control for a wide range of applications using Vision Edition and network cameras. ‘Vision Edition-U’ has been tested and certified as UR+, providing fast commissioning, smooth and reliable operation, intuitive programming and ultimate integration with UR’s cobots.
A demo of Canon’s Vision Edition-U system, in partnership with Universal Robots, is taking place in room 7.1 in hall 7 at Motek, which is an international trade fair for automation in production and assembly. The event takes place in Stuttgart from Monday 7th – Thursday 10th October 2019. Universal Robots will be based in hall 7 at booth 7301.
About Motek 2019
The international trade fair Motek, which takes place in Stuttgart from Monday 7th – Thursday 10th October, is the world’s leading event in the fields of production and assembly automation, feed technology and material flow, streamlining through handling technology, and industrial handling. Motek is the only trade fair to clearly focus on all aspects of mechanical engineering and automation and on the presentation of entire process chains.
About Universal Robots (UR)
Universal Robots was founded in 2005 to make robot technology accessible to all by developing small, user-friendly, reasonably priced, flexible collaborative robots (cobots) that are safe to work with. Since the first cobot was launched in 2008, the company has experienced considerable growth with the user-friendly cobot now sold worldwide. The company, which is a part of Teradyne Inc., is headquartered in Odense, Denmark, and has subsidiaries and regional offices in the United States, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Russia, Turkey, China, India, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Mexico. Use case of ‘Vision Edition-U’
1. Single camera, multiple point inspection
‘Vision Edition-U’ can inspect screw holes made, or parts fitted by the robot using image processing. Thanks to a flexible pan/ tilt/ zoom camera, large areas such as car doors can be inspected by a single camera and eliminate human inspection errors.
2. Monitoring robotic automation process
‘Vision Edition-U’ counts the parts quantity and reads weight to ensure correct packing contents. A wide range of image processing functions ensure the efficiency at every step of the robotic automation process and keeps a high standard of output.
