PIXMA MG5650 Wireless Connection Setup

Some access points (sometimes referred to as routers or hubs) feature an automatic connection button labelled “WPS” which stands for Wi-Fi Protected Setup.

This allows permitted devices such as your PIXMA MG5650 to connect to your network without needing to enter a password and it enables a quick and easy method of connecting your devices.

This method is by far the easiest way of connecting your PIXMA MG5650 so if your access point has a WPS button please select the ‘WPS Connection Method’ tab below for instructions on connecting using this method.

If your router does not support WPS we have provided alternative instructions to get your PIXMA MG5650 connected so please select the 'Standard Connection Method' tab below.


WPS Connection Method

Before we start, there are some conditions that must be met in order to use the WPS push button method:

  • The access point must have a physical WPS push button available. Please check with your device’s user guide for details. If the WPS push button is not available please use the instructions on the Standard Connection Method tab.
  • Your network must be using the WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) or WPA2 security protocol. Most WPS enabled access points use this protocol.
  1. Press the [Home] button (A) on the printer.

  2. Use the [[MASTER] Arrows] buttons (A) to select the [WLAN [MASTER] WLAN] icon.

  3. Press the left function button (B).

  4. When the screen below appears select [Wireless LAN setup] and press the [OK] button.

    The blue Wi-Fi lamp lights up when the wireless connection is enabled.
    The printer will now automatically search for access points supporting the WPS feature.

  5. When the screen below appears press and hold the [WPS] button on your access point for approximately 5 seconds, then release.
    For exact instructions on starting WPS on your access point, please refer to its user guide.

  6. Press the [OK] button on the printer within 2 minutes.
    The blue Wi-Fi lamp on the printer flashes while searching for or connecting to the access point.

  7. When the message [Connected to the access point] is displayed on the screen as shown below, press the [OK] button to complete the setup.

This concludes the WPS setup procedure.

Standard Connection Method

  1. Press the [Home] button (A) on the printer.

  2. Use the [[MASTER] Arrows] buttons (A) to select the [WLAN [MASTER] WLAN] icon.

  3. Press the left function button (B).

  4. When the screen below appears select [Wireless LAN setup] and press the [OK] button.

    The blue Wi-Fi lamp lights up when the wireless connection is enabled.

  5. When the screen below appears press the [Stop/Reset[MASTER] Stop-Reset] button.

  6. When the following screen is displayed select [Standard setup] then press the [OK] button to start the standard setup process.

    The printer will now search all available wireless networks in the immediate vicinity.

  7. Use the [[MASTER] Arrows] buttons to select the access point, that is the name (or SSID) of your network, and then press the [OK] button.

    The name of your wireless network is represented here as “xxxx”
    If you are unsure of the name of your wireless network, it may be on a printed label your access point, or you can check the network your computer is connected to.
    If you cannot see your network listed, then press the left function button to select [Search again].

    One of the screens below will be displayed on the printer, depending on which security method your access point is using.

  8. Press the [OK] button to enter/edit your network password.

  9. Enter the network password (WEP Key or passphrase) of your wireless network.
    Character entry is case sensitive.

    You can enter characters when the keyboard is displayed on the printer’s LCD. Follow the procedure below.
    a. Password entry is case sensitive so press the centre function button (A) to switch between lower case, upper case and numeric characters.
    b. Use the [ [MASTER] Arrows 2 ] buttons (B) to select a character from the keyboard, then press the [OK] button to select and move to the next character.
    c. Repeat a and b to enter more characters

  10. Once you have entered your network password, then press the left function button to select [Done].

  11. Your network password will be displayed. Confirm that the details you have entered are correct.
    If you make a mistake, press [OK] to edit the password.

  12. Press the left function button to [End Setup].

  13. When the left screen appears, press the [OK] button.

Restoring your PIXMA MG5650 network settings back to the factory default settings

If you need to reset your network settings back to factory default, for example if you change your access point, you can do so by following these instructions:

  1. Press the [Home] button (A) on the printer.

  2. Use the [[MASTER] Up Arrow] button (A) to navigate to the [Setup] icon [MASTER] Setupand press the right function button (B).

  3. Use the [[MASTER] Right Arrow] button (A) to select [Device Settings] and press the [OK] button.

  4. Use the [[MASTER] Down Arrow] button (A) to navigate to [Reset settings] and press the [OK] button (A).

  5. Use the [[MASTER] Down Arrow] button to navigate to [LAN settings only].

  6. Press the [OK] button.

  7. When the [Reset setting?] screen appears, use the [[MASTER] Up Arrow] button to navigate to [Yes]

  8. Press the [OK] button. [Processing….Please wait momentarily] will be displayed.

  9. When complete, press the [OK] button.

The wireless network settings have been reset back to factory default settings.

Press the [Home] button to return to the home screen.
