Where to find your serial number

The exact location of your serial number varies between different Canon products. Use the tabs below to select your product group and locate helpful instructions on exactly where the serial number can be found for your particular product.

EOS Cameras

The serial number for your EOS camera will consist only of numbers and will generally be 12 numbers long. However on some older EOS models the serial number may be either 6 or 10 numbers long. This will be displayed on the bottom of the camera, printed in black, grey or white numbers. On certain models the serial number will preceded by the letters “NO.” whereas on other models only a number will be displayed. The possible locations of where the serial number can be displayed are highlighted in the below images–

                      

 

PowerShot and IXUS

The serial number for your PowerShot or IXUS camera will generally consist only of numbers and will be 12 numbers long. However, on some older models the serial number may be a combination of letters and numbers and be either 9 or 10 digits long. This will always be printed in black on a sticker located on the bottom of the camera. However the colour of the sticker may vary depending on the colour of your camera.

EF Lenses

The location of the serial number on EF lenses differs depending on the type of lens.
Typically the serial number can be found on either the lens barrel stamped in white or on the electronic mount stamped in black. Both examples are displayed in the images below-

Speedlites

Older model Speedlites have the serial number stamped into the flash head as indicated in the image below -

Newer model Speedlites have the serial number displayed on a sticker that is inlaid in the flash head and this is in the format of black numbers on a silver/grey background as indicated in the image below -

PIXMA

The serial number for your PIXMA printer will be 9 characters long and consists of 4 letters followed by 5 numbers e.g. XXXX00000. This will be printed on a sticker and can be found either on the back or inside the printer, some of the possible locations are highlighted below -

Please be aware that over time ink can spill onto the white sticker inside the machine which can prevent the serial number from being visible, this can be wiped off with a dry cloth.

 

 

You can also find your serial number printed on a white sticker on the side of the box that your PIXMA printer came in. The location of the serial number on this sticker is highlighted in the image below -

 

i-SENSYS

The structure of the serial number for your i-SENSYS varies depending on the model type, as explained below -

  • If your product provides printing functionality only then the serial number will be 10 digits long and consist of 4 letters and 6 numbers e.g. XXXX-000000.
  • If your product provides printing and copying, scanning or faxing functionality then the serial number will be 8 digits long and consist of 3 letters and 5 numbers e.g XXX-00000.

The serial number will always be printed on a sticker and can be found either on the back of the machine or for some models inside the machine.

The serial number is located at the bottom of the printer as indicated in the image below -

 

LEGRIA

Generally, the serial number is located on a white sticker on the bottom of your product although in some models the serial number is located behind the battery. Please refer to the example images below -


   

 

 

Cinema EOS

The serial number is located on a white sticker on the bottom of your product as indicated in the image below -


CanonScan and CanoScan LiDE Series

Generally, the serial number is located on a white sticker on the back of your product although in some models the serial number is located on the bottom of your product. Please refer to the example images below -

 

 

Multimedia Projectors

The serial number for all projectors is located on the bottom of the product as indicated in the images below. The serial number is always a combination of letters and numbers -

   

 

 

Calculators

The serial number for printing calculators is located either on a white sticker on the bottom of the product preceded by the letters ‘NO’, or on the original product packaging as indicated in the images below -

 

 

Fax Machines

The serial number is located at the back of the product as indicated in the image below -

 

Binoculars

Generally, the serial number is located underneath the binoculars although on IS models, this will be located on the battery door of the product.

 

Personal Copiers

The serial number is located at the back of the product as indicated in the image below -

 

Network Cameras

The serial number is located on the bottom of the product in the box marked ‘serial number’. As indicated in the image below, the serial number is located where the red bar is shown -
