Due to the four locations and the increasing volume of incoming invoices, processing them became progressively more complex and time‑consuming. For accounts payable in particular, it was no longer possible to track down individual invoices that were either being processed or awaiting approval. To avoid losing oversight, lists had to be maintained showing where each incoming invoice was currently located. In such a situation, meeting payment deadlines and taking advantage of discount periods became more than just an organisational challenge. Searching for invoices in the paper archive also proved to be highly time‑consuming.
