Tradition meets innovation: Pustet relies on Canon digital printing

Friedrich Pustet GmbH & Co. KG is a long-established family business based in Regensburg, Germany.

Founded over 200 years ago and now run by the seventh generation, the company operates in three business areas: a high-performance printing house with its own bookbinding facility, a publishing house, and a chain of bookstores with eleven branches across Bavaria.

With around 325 employees, Pustet is one of the key medium-sized players in Germany’s book and printing industry.

Pustet’s customers – including numerous publishing houses – expect top-tier quality, fast delivery times, and flexible production options.

In recent years, demands have increased significantly, especially for smaller print runs and customised book productions. The goal was to complement existing offset printing capabilities with digital printing technology to tap into new market segments.

Crucially, Pustet needed to meet these expectations economically even as print volumes declined – without compromising the proven quality standards of offset production.

Pustet was looking to enter the world of digital printing without compromising on quality. Canon’s solution enabled Pustet to deliver its signature high quality even for small print runs – regardless of the printing method.

The end-to-end process, from data input to the packaged book, remains entirely in-house and meets customers’ high expectations for precision and reliability.

The business partnered with Canon to integrate an imagePRESS V1000 and a varioPRINT TITAN 6330 into its existing production workflow, supported by smart workflow solutions from the PRISMA family: PRISMAsync for controller management and PRISMAprepare for automating prepress processes.
